Sex in the Bible

I was raised Roman Catholic. I have read the Bible from cover to cover a number of times. What always amazed me was just how earthy the Bible really is. I mean there are people begetting people all over the place, homosexual love, rape, incest, illegitimate children, etc. Now, if Mass on Sunday had brought up the really interesting stuff, they might have just packed the house. Not that we are all a bunch of perverts, but let's be honest. I'd rather hear about Adam and Eve getting it on than some stuffy saint preaching chastity and pure thoughts. Pleeeeeease!
Anyway, if you have the balls (or the steel ovaries) to follow this link, I think you'll be amazed. I can almost guarantee you will have an urge to pick up the Bible and re-read it again. It's a lusty book. Of that I am sure. Everything else requires faith and well, let's just say I'm sticking to what I can see, taste and feel. Enjoy.

What you wouldn't do for love....

I warned you all that my blogs will cover much more in-depth and adult content than Facebook allows. Beware and be careful. It's a historical jungle out there!

A eunuch is a castrated human male. The castration can be only of the testes, or also include the penis, known as a penectomy (often with a tube inserted to keep the urethra open, called a urethral rerouting). The practice was established before 700 BC and accounts of eunuchs are known throughout history.

According to Tom Burnham's Dictionary of Misinformation, a common misconception about eunuchs is that, since they were castrated, they were either unable or unwanting to defile or perform sexual intercourse with the women in the harem they were employed to watch over. This was not always true, however. If a eunuch was castrated after puberty, which was common, he would still be able to achieve an erection and engage in coitus, though no pregnancy could result. According to Burnham, many women preferred eunuchs as lovers since they never ejaculated and could, therefore, maintain erections longer.

In ancient China castration was both a traditional punishment (until the Sui Dynasty) and a means of gaining employment in the Imperial service. At the end of the Ming Dynasty there were 70,000 eunuchs in the Imperial palace. The value of such employment—certain eunuchs gained immense power that may supersede that of the prime ministers—was such that self-castration had to be made illegal. The number of eunuchs in Imperial employ had fallen to 470 in 1912, when the employment ceased. The justification of the employment of eunuchs as high-ranking civil servants was that, since they were incapable of having children, they would not be tempted to seize power and start a dynasty. Concurrently, a similar system existed in Vietnam.

Anyone Have Champagne?

This is my first blog, EVER! I am excited and nervous all in one fell swoop. Yup, I am going to have to look up that phrase one day soon. I use it too often and do not know what is originally meant or who used it. For all I know, it could describe the action of an eagle descending on some poor defenseless bunny rabbit and here I am, bandying it about willy nilly.
Anyway, I hope to blog about all things historical here, including people, clothing, sex (of course!), inventions and just stuff. History is fascinating and we can learn so much from the past and the people who lived. I look forward to your comments and additions. Teach me what you know and I'll share what I find.
So, thanks for reading my first blog.

OMG Tidbit for the Day:

The remarkably well-preserved texts have also brought to light a number of previously unknown episodes from the Revolutionary period, including the midnight ride of Saul Revere, which occurred on Apr. 19, 1775.

"As American militiamen marched back to Boston from the Battles of Lexington and Concord, Revere immediately burst forth from his mistress's residence and took to his horse," said Caroline Cobb, a staff curator at Independence Hall. "For 12 miles, his pantaloons dragged from his ankle as he cried out to his philandering cohorts, warning them of the colonial women's returning husbands."
